World Biodiversity Day 2021: EMC Re-affirms Commitment to Sustainable Biodiversity Management
The United Nations has identified May 22 as The International Day for Biological Diversity to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year’s theme, “We’re part of the solution,” was chosen to build on the momentum generated from last year’s over-arching theme, “Our solutions are in nature.”
Guyana has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. Its ecosystems provide essential goods, including food and water, medicine, and valuable services such as air and water purification, carbon sequestration, and climate regulation.
Environmental Management Consultants Inc. (EMC), as an environmental service provider and promoter of green growth, works to support efforts aimed at the protection and sustainable management of this rich biodiversity. According to EMC’s Managing Director, Shyam Nokta, “EMC encourages and supports our clients to adopt and integrate the highest environmental standards and procedures, including protection of biodiversity as part of their activities. EMC, through the Saxacalli Rainforest Centre initiative, will continue to promote awareness on biodiversity and work with organisations and stakeholders to protect Guyana’s rich biodiversity and ecosystems.”
