DR. GARY CLARKE – FORESTRY SPECIALIST
Dr. Gary Clarke is a Forestry Specialist with over thirty (30) years’ experience. Dr. Clarke’s academic qualifications include a PhD in Forest Management from the University of Aberdeen, a Bachelor of Science (Honours in Forestry) in Ecological Science (First Class – Distinction) from the University of Edinburgh, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Environmental Studies) from Southampton University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Geography (Upper Second Class – Credit) from Portsmouth University.
Dr. Clarke has in excess of twenty five (25) years post-graduate experience in forest management, forest certification, institutional strengthening and training in Guyana (16 years), Suriname (14 years), the Caribbean Islands (7 years), Europe (3 years) and Canada (1 year).
Dr. Clarke has conducted the scoping of VPA/FLEGT Impacts Assessment in Guyana for FAO (2013); conducted the IFM and MRV assessment for the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) (2012); developed HCVF Guidelines for WWF Suriname (2011); developed a National Legality standard in Guyana for Proforest/GFC (2011); supported the Development of REDD+ across the Guiana Shield (Climate Focus) (2011); verified REDD+ Enabling Activities in Guyana (Rainforest Alliance) (2010); conducted IFM – Internal National Audit Guyana for GFC (2010); conducted Accuracy Assessment on REDD+ and MRVs in Guyana for Poyry (2010); developed a Legal Verification System in Guyana for GFC (2007) and reported on Timber Tracking System in Guyana for GFC/ITTO (2009).
