Environmental Understanding is Vital in Decision Making for Development

Bankole Holder is an Environmental Officer at EMC and an important member of the Marine Team. He loves all things outdoors and often utilizes his free time to engage in sports such as cricket and football or take tranquil, adventurous trips that allow him the time to enjoy nature in its truest sense such as hiking, camping, and trekking in nature areas.

Science has always been intriguing to me from a young age and being allowed to explore and experiment in the biological sense to further understand the interactions between fauna and flora has always excited me.

Working in the environmental field is important because it gives insight into why things happen the way they do. The environmental field promotes research and studies on issues such as sustainability, ecological health, and the impacts of anthropogenic activities. It also helps one to gain a better understanding of the interactions that occur around you and it provides you with the necessary tools to inform the decisions you make as it relates to the environment.

At EMC, I am involved in several disciplines that range from environmental assessments, baseline studies, and marine ecosystems studies. I would like to see systems continue to improve to manage and protect Guyana’s environment.
