EMC facilitates Awareness Workshop on Environmental Management and Compliance
The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Ltd. (GMSA), through support from Environmental Management Consultants (EMC) and in collaboration with Guyana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on June 25, 2014, hosted an Awareness Workshop on Environmental Management and Compliance for GMSA members.This initiative was intended to lend support to GMSA members by providing a better understanding of the issues regarding environmental management and to interact with the regulator (EPA) and specialists in the field.
EMC’s Finance Director and Executive Member of the GMSA, Malisa Nokta in delivering remarks pointed out that good environmental stewardship and economic growth were two parallel streams, not always compatible. She further stated that “businesses have recognized the need to improve environmental performance as it is good for the environment, and good for business as well, and one way of doing this is by improving efficiencies and reducing environmental footprint through better environmental management practices.”
EMC’s Projects Manager, Khalid Alladin made a presentation on good environmental management practices and compliance requirements highlighting the company’s experience in working with a range of sectors and businesses in providing environmental compliance support. In his presentation Khalid Alladin highlighted critical environmental issues and corrective actions for addressing these. Presentations were also made by representatives of the EPA who outlined the environmental permitting process and requirements.
