TRAINING WORKSHOP ON ‘STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF EPA FIELD OFFICERS TO FACILITATE GREATER OVERSIGHT OF GOLD MINING OPERATIONS’
Environmental Management Consultants (EMC) personnel conducted a three day training course on “Strengthening the capacity of EPA Field Officers to facilitate greater oversight of gold mining operations” during the period April 26 – 28, 2016 at the Grand Coastal Hotel, Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara. The training targeted 24 field officers from the technical divisions of the EPA with the aim of improving their knowledge and understanding of the impacts of gold mining activities on the environment and to enhance their capacity to monitor gold mining operations.
The training covered a wide cross-section of topics related to gold mining and the environment including Legislation and Regulations, Codes of Practice and the use of Checklists for monitoring.
