Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs)

An Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) is a detailed framework that sets out the strategies, actions, and responsibilities needed to manage and mitigate the environmental and social impacts of a project throughout its entire lifecycle.

ESMPs translate the findings of an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) into clear, actionable measures. ESMPs typically include mitigation and monitoring measures, compliance requirements, capacity-building initiatives, reporting systems, and emergency response procedures. They ensure that potential risks are not only identified but are effectively managed and monitored over time.

EMC prepares Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) as required by Guyana’s EPA as part of environmental authorisation of projects. The ESMPs are prepared in accordance with the EPA’s Guidelines for Preparing ESMPs and are done utilizing a multi-disciplinary team of experts.
